Getting your child/ren ready for daycare for the first time.

For a child/ren attending a day care center for the first time or a new day care center it can be a big adjustment for the child and the caretaker. Although your child/ren might seem to be excited about the new change they can still feel nervousness and anxiety as to what to aspect. We hope these tips will help your child/ren and you in this process..

  • Learn as much about the facility and its schedule in advance. Discuss with your child what she/he will be doing, and in what order, if possible.
  • Express confidence and enthusiasm about the new arrangement. She/He needs your support. Tell her/him about some of the activities she/him will be participating in. Speak about your positive expectations about the experience--and she/him will most likely work hard to meet them.
  • Tour the center and the specific classroom with your child before his first day. Introduce her/him to friends and teachers. Let her/him explore some of the centers or features.
